Hike on the Hertoglimburgpad - Vaals

April! April! Let's go! Who wants to hike!

Dear hikers,

this year we are once again organizing circular walks on the route from Rolduc to Limbourg. We will be using the additional circuits described in the Hertoglimburgpad hiking guide. The next hike is planned for Sunday, April 14, starting in Vaals.
Those of us starting in Kerkrade will not be using a hired bus to the starting point, but will be leaving from the church on the Wood, Pastoor Wijnenplein in Kerkrade. We leave from there at 09.30 am. The walk starts at 10 am in the center of Vaals and leads from there through a stretch of beautiful Limburg hills. The total length is approximately 12 kilometers.
If you would like to join us on a walk, please register at least one week before departure with the treasurer of the HLP Foundation: Mr. Jo Heunen, by e-mail: j.heunen@home.nl. State the destination of the walk, the number of people and also how many people you can take with you. Cost of the walk: € 2.50 per person. Transfer the amount due to the account: NL44 RABO 0369 0032 68 in the name of Stichting Hertog Limburg Pad. For carpooling we charge € 3,50 to support the driver.

Make sure that you are present 10 minutes before the start of the walk.
Finally, we would like to point out, perhaps unnecessarily, that you take part in the walk we have organized at your own risk.

What happened?

On this sunny Sunday, the hike begins in the center of Vaals. Hub leads us up the slope from Hotel Schloss Bloemendal. We pass the old cemetery of the former nunnery and a little further on the Jewish cemetery. On narrow paths between fields, we pass the half-timbered houses of the rural hamlet of Wolfhaag. There we cross the Belgian border in the direction of Gemmenich. Here we take a short break for a snack and a drink. Bypassing the Vaalser Berg, we reach Preuswald after a steep climb. There are still some old boundary stones with the imperial eagle along the way. Here we walk along part of the Aachen Pilgrims' Trail with several memorial crosses along the way. Finally, we descend from the hills and return to Vaals. Passing the small customs museum, the walk ends back in the city center.
