The Royal Tourist Information Office (RSI) has awarded the honorary title of Tourism Ambassador of the Duchy of Limbourg for the first time. The ceremony took place on Thursday afternoon at the Embassy of the Pays de Rode, Place Saint-Georges. "They are people who, through their actions and their writings, contribute to the influence of the history of the Duchy, in a selfless way," explains Jean-Paul Pauquet, President of the RSI. "Although they are not from the municipality, they are passionate about our history and heritage and are our true ambassadors outside our municipal borders. But we believe that tourism and its cultural and historical vocation also deserve to be recognized."

"When we talk about a tourism ambassador, for me tourism is not primarily linked to the economic purpose. On the contrary, tourism is about getting to know each other," says Dr. Jörg Schmitz-Gielsdorf, the ambassador of the Pays de Rode. This is exactly one of the personalities celebrated by the Syndicat d'Initiative.

Tourism ambassadors

Dr. Jörg Schmitz-Gielsdorf: "For his concern to promote the history of Rolduc and to foster intercultural relations between Limbourg, its inhabitants, lovers of the rich history of the Dukes of Limbourg," says Jean-Paul Pauquet. "Mr. Jörg Schmitz replaced Jack Buck, who passed away unexpectedly in 2011. Since then, our friends at the embassy have further strengthened relations between the two countries by organizing visits, for example with the Catharine Guild, its choirs and the Duchy's flag-wavers...."

Paul De Clercq and Katleen Anrijs: "Paul was particularly involved in the fortnightly magazine Geroepen with a circulation of 800 copies. There he did a report on the Limbourg site with the help of his wife, who took some very nice photos."

Renée Rewers - Willekens de Halle -Zoersel: "She has carried the city of Limbourg in her heart for 63 years! In April 2017, 20 years after the death of Germain Antoine, she organized an exhibition to pay tribute to him and enable many Limburgers to check out the work of this talented artist and purchase a work. This exhibition was a complete success."

Mrs. Elzbieta Dedek: an award-winning pianist who has given concerts all over the world. This Polish pianist, who came to Belgium in 1960, "is dedicated to presenting a radio program Carnets de musique on R.C.F. Liège, where she allows many associations like us to make themselves known. In February, we were able to make the city of Limbourg known."
